Description

Delicious homemade soft pretzels that are easy to make and perfect for snacking.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (unbleached)
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp coarse sea salt (plus more for topping)
  • ⅓ cup baking soda
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water and brown sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top; let it sit until bubbly.
  2. Mix in the flour and salt until a dough forms. Roll each piece into ropes approximately 12 inches long and twist into desired shapes.
  3. Boil water in a large pot and add the baking soda. Boil each pretzel stick for about 30 seconds before transferring to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  4. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 12-15 minutes until golden.

  • For a chewier pretzel, increase boiling time slightly.
