Description

A delightful recipe for cheesy Swedish meatballs served in a creamy sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preparation of Meatballs:

    • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, milk, egg, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix until well incorporated.
    • Shape the mixture into small balls, about 1 inch in diameter.
  2. Cooking the Meatballs:

    • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until all sides are browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Cream Sauce:

    • In the same skillet, reduce the heat and add butter. Once melted, stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
    • Gradually whisk in beef broth and bring to a simmer until thickened.
    • Stir in heavy cream and shredded Swiss cheese until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.
  4. Combine and Simmer:

    • Return the meatballs to the skillet and coat them with the cheese sauce.
    • Cover and simmer for about 10-15 minutes until the meatballs are cooked through.
  5. Serving:

    • Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and serve hot.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of nutmeg to the meatball mixture.
  • If the sauce is too thick, add a little more broth or cream to reach the desired consistency.
  • Serve over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice for a complete meal.
