Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 2 large onions
  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • for frying vegetable oil
  • 4 burger buns
  • optional favorite burger sauce
  • optional lettuce and tomato slices

Instructions

  1. Prep the Onion Rings:
    • Slice onions into thick rings.
    • Set up a dredging station with three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with bread crumbs.
    • Dip onion rings in flour, then egg, then bread crumbs. Ensure they are well-coated.
  2. Cook the Bacon:
    • In a skillet over medium heat, cook bacon until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
    • Once cooled, chop bacon into small pieces.
  3. Fry the Onion Rings:
    • Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat.
    • Fry the onion rings until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  4. Shape and Cook the Patties:
    • Divide ground beef into four equal parts and shape into patties. Season with salt and pepper.
    • In the same skillet used for bacon, cook patties about 3-4 minutes on each side for medium, adding a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty in the last minute to melt.
  5. Assemble the Burgers:
    • Toast burger buns in the skillet or oven until golden.
    • On the bottom bun, place a burger patty, followed by an onion ring, a sprinkle of bacon, and repeat once more for a double stack.
    • Top with more bacon, lettuce, tomato, and sauce if desired, then finish with the top bun.

Notes

  • Onion Ring Coating: Ensure the onion rings are well-coated for extra crunch.
  • Cheese Melting: If needed, cover the skillet with a lid for a minute to help cheese melt faster.
